Aww, no more cute Whales? Tweat Action!

The fail whale may be going the way of the Dodo if you don’t retweat the message below.

The fancy pants engineers over at Twitter are “revamping their system to scale”. This cynical move toward business efficiency puts the fail whale species at risk of mass extinction. When Twitter was asked to comment on this, they had nothing to say for themselves. Nothing!

I don’t ever want to have to utter the words ‘Fail Whale… RIP #fwh’. So please help me speak up for the whale — right now.

Please retweat this message and help save the cute FAIL whale!

Aww, no more cute whales?? Don’t FAIL us Twitter. Save the Fail Whales! http://SavetheFailWhales.org #STFW

(you can use whatever wording you want, just please include “#sftw” in your post — thanks!)

Block a Twitter Spammer, Save a Fail Whale

Have you ever gotten followed by a vixen like stella102?

or maybe barbie071?

Well, I have.

At first, I was flattered that these hot twins would both take an interest in a Fail Whale activist such as myself. Just kidding, I knew they were just bots all along — they’re a special kind of bot called FemBots and they’re really bad for Twitter and for the the Fail Whale too. So I blocked them — as you can see from the above.

They suck up 10 or 20 times the typical Twitter account and this *forces* the Fail Whale to come out and play. But the Fail Whale does not like to be forced to play, breach, toe-touch, or whatever. I mean, do you? The Fail Whale only likes to come out only because real people are tweeting.

So if you respect the dignity of the Fail Whale…

  • Submit spammer’s names to support@twitter.com.
  • Submit spammer’s names to this form http://twitter.com/help/
  • And spread the word!

Wikipedia Dictatorship Deletes the Fail Whale

The title pretty much says it all. There is a vast, gaping hole here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail_Whale. Actually there is just a redirect to the Twitter page on Wikipedia. The Wikidictators claim that the entry was removed because if it was promotional. Fail Whale proponents responded by rightly pointing out that:

  1. The Fail Whale’s existence has been cited by numerous news organizations, including the New York Times
  2. Wikipedia has a tradition of publishing entries for fictional characters. The biography of George Costanza is five times as long as that of Tim O’Reilly, as noted by marketing professional Seth Godin.
  3. Reasons 1 & 2 are enough, right? Sheesh.

Needless to say, once a Wikipedia editor makes up his or her mind, they’ll never be swayed. But as is always the case, we can tweet them down with twits — click to tweat:

Wikipedia editors, what’s your deal? The Fail Whale deserves recognition. Save the Fail Whales! http://SavetheFailWhales.org/wikipedia-now #STFW
