Wikipedia Dictatorship Deletes the Fail Whale

The title pretty much says it all. There is a vast, gaping hole here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail_Whale. Actually there is just a redirect to the Twitter page on Wikipedia. The Wikidictators claim that the entry was removed because if it was promotional. Fail Whale proponents responded by rightly pointing out that:

  1. The Fail Whale’s existence has been cited by numerous news organizations, including the New York Times
  2. Wikipedia has a tradition of publishing entries for fictional characters. The biography of George Costanza is five times as long as that of Tim O’Reilly, as noted by marketing professional Seth Godin.
  3. Reasons 1 & 2 are enough, right? Sheesh.

Needless to say, once a Wikipedia editor makes up his or her mind, they’ll never be swayed. But as is always the case, we can tweet them down with twits — click to tweat:

Wikipedia editors, what’s your deal? The Fail Whale deserves recognition. Save the Fail Whales! http://SavetheFailWhales.org/wikipedia-now #STFW
